KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A 22-year-old Keene woman is facing a felony assault charge after police say an infant was hospitalized with multiple fractures in various stages of healing.

Keene Police said detectives were alerted by the New Hampshire Division for Children, Youth and Families on Aug. 4 after the child, who is less than 1 year old, was taken to a hospital with injuries considered suspicious.

Medical findings showed the infant had sustained several fractures that were at different stages of healing, according to police.

Detectives launched an investigation to determine how and when the injuries occurred. Police said the investigation subsequently produced evidence supporting criminal charges against the child’s mother, identified as Jade Galford, 22, of Keene.

Galford was arrested Thursday, Aug. 6, on a warrant issued in connection with the investigation. She was charged with second-degree assault under New Hampshire RSA 631:2.

Galford was being held without bail at the Cheshire County House of Corrections pending her arraignment Friday, Aug. 7, in the 8th Circuit Court in Keene.

The investigation remains active. Keene Police detectives received assistance from the Child Advocacy and Protection Program at Dartmouth-Hitchcock in Lebanon.
