KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) After the first season of women’s ice hockey in the Little East Conference, the LEC recently announced its selections for the All-Conference teams, and a member of the Keene State College women’s ice hockey team earned the well-deserved honor.

Ai Chung was named to the First Team All-LEC in a season where an argument could be made, she was one of the best goalies in all of NCAA Division III, and is now unequivocally, the best goalie in the LEC. Chung made 226 more saves than the second place save leader in the LEC, and over her LEC-high 22 games started in net, she had a .932 save percentage.

Among the 10 games where LEC goalies had the highest number of saves, Chung had six of them, including the most in a single game against eventual LEC Champion Norwich University with 68. She made 37.14 saves per game.

While these numbers alone are very impressive, Chung was also statistically significant when compared to the rest of Division III. She made the second most saves in all of NCAA Division III women’s ice hockey, stopping 817 shots.

“[Chung] has a tremendous competitive spirit and is a real student of the position. She prepares, studies the game and embraces the responsibility of being our starter,” Owl’s head coach Rob Morgan said. “It didn’t take long to recognize she had the potential to be a difference-maker for our young program.”

As Chung is just a sophomore, she’ll have two more years with Keene State, barring a transfer or a move to a higher division. In her short stint with the Owls so far, she’s become the only player in program history to record 1,000 career saves, which she accomplished in a 47 save effort in Keene State’s last game of the season.

“I’m incredibly proud of [Chung] for her accomplishments this season,” Ainsley King, KSC’s goaltender coach, said. “It has been great to see her grow her confidence on and off the ice, and I am excited for her next two seasons as an Owl.”
