Firefighters from several towns responded to a second-alarm attic fire at a Sprague Lane home in Swanzey Thursday morning; no injuries were reported.
SWANZEY, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Firefighters from several Monadnock Region communities responded to a Thursday morning house fire in Swanzey that spread from the upper floor into the attic, prompting a second alarm.
Crews were called to 5 Sprague Lane just off Swanzey Factory Road near Route 12 at about 10:16 a.m. Thursday after a fire was reported at the home. When firefighters arrived, flames and smoke were visible coming from the attic area.
According to Swanzey Deputy Fire Chief Michael Burke, the fire started above the second floor and quickly spread into the attic space.
The homeowner was inside at the time but was alerted that the house was on fire. He and two other people inside the building safely evacuated. Two pets were also removed from the home, and no injuries were reported.
A second alarm was requested as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
Swanzey Factory Road was shut down and re-opened at about noon.
Departments responding to the scene included firefighters from Swanzey, Keene, Winchester, Troy, Jaffrey and Marlborough.
Radio traffic indicated the bulk of the fire was knocked down shortly before 11 a.m., though firefighters reported a partial ceiling collapse on the second floor during the incident. The fire was reported under control at about 11:17 a.m.
The extent of damage to the home and the cause of the fire have not yet been released.
