SWANZEY – (MyKeeneNow) The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) has arranged a public informational meeting to discuss the planned replacement of the red-listed bridge carrying NH Route 32 over Martin Brook in Swanzey.
The meeting will take place on Monday, June 24, at 6 p.m. at Whitcomb Hall, 17 Main Street, Swanzey.
This project also includes improvements to approximately 1,000 feet of Route 32 and may impact historic properties in the area, according to a news release from the DOT.
This meeting aims to present information about the proposed project to residents and public officials and to solicit community feedback.
A “red list” bridge is one that is designated structurally deficient and receives a rating of “poor” or below on the national bridge index.
An environmental review of the project’s potential impacts on natural and cultural resources is currently underway, in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act.
The plan for the bridge has two options as listed on the DOT’s website. The first is to rehabilitate the existing structure, replacing the deteriorated concrete deck, the bridge and approach rail; and repairing the concrete substructure. This option would not extend the bridge’s service life.
The second option would be to replace the complete structure, lengthening the bridge to “stream-crossing rules” (a 59-foot span), widening the bridge, and replacing the bridge and approach rail. This option is expected the extend the bridge’s service life the longest amount of time.
Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting and provide their input.
