JAFFREY, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Woodbound Road Bridge 178/052 in Jaffrey was recently added to the New Hampshire State Register of Historic Places, according to the N.H. Division of Historical Resources.
A historic bridge in Jaffrey is among seven properties newly added to the New Hampshire State Register of Historic Places, according to the New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources.
The agency announced Monday that Woodbound Road Bridge 178/052, which carries Woodbound Road over Mill Brook, was recognized for its historical and architectural significance. Built around 1914, the bridge features a mortared ashlar ring, cobblestone walls and rustic parapets.
State historians said the bridge is tied to the Good Roads Movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which promoted improved transportation infrastructure to support economic growth and increase public access to rural recreation and conservation areas.
The Jaffrey bridge was one of seven properties across New Hampshire added to the state register this year. Other sites recognized include historic schools, churches, libraries, homes and a former grange hall in communities including Dorchester, Goshen, North Hampton, Rye and Washington.
The New Hampshire State Register of Historic Places is administered by the Division of Historical Resources, part of the New Hampshire Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. The program recognizes buildings, structures and sites that contribute to the state’s historical heritage while helping promote preservation and education efforts.
According to the division, listing a property on the register does not place restrictions on private property owners. Information about the nomination process is available through the division’s website.
