ROXBURY, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A 7-year-old boy with special needs was found safe Saturday evening after a multi-agency search in the wooded area behind his family’s Roxbury home, according to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.

Conservation officers were notified at about 3:20 p.m. that the child had gone missing after he was last seen by his parents around 12:30 p.m. at the family’s rural residence, which is surrounded by extensive forestland, officials said.

Search crews from several local and state agencies responded and began looking for the child.

At approximately 5:25 p.m., a K9 team with New England Canine Search and Rescue located the boy about 1,500 feet behind the home, according to Fish and Game.

A conservation officer carried the child back to the residence, where he was evaluated as a precaution by a Keene Fire Department ambulance crew before being reunited with his parents.

The search effort included assistance from New Hampshire State Police Troop C, a State Police K9 unit, the Roxbury Fire Department, Roxbury Police Department, the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team, New England Canine Search and Rescue, the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing, the Keene Fire Department and the New Hampshire Department of Emergency Services Communications, Fish and Game officials said.
