KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) The City of Keene’s Public Works Department is advising drivers to plan for delays this week as contractors continue work on several construction and maintenance projects throughout the city.
Work on the Marlboro Street reconstruction project resumes Monday, with crews continuing road excavation, gravel installation, paving and granite curb replacement between Main Street and Eastern Avenue. Public Works officials said alternating one-way traffic or shifted two-way traffic may be in place while the work is underway.
Also beginning Monday, a contractor will install a box culvert on Key Road near 68 Key Road. Traffic will be reduced to alternating one-way travel and could be detoured during the two-day project. The culvert is being installed within the city’s drainage easement between 55 and 63 Key Road.
Construction also continues Monday on the Transportation Heritage Trail near the Eastern Avenue trailhead parking area. Public Works officials said drivers should expect occasional alternating one-way traffic near the trail crossing for about two weeks, although normal traffic patterns will resume at the end of each workday.
Repairs to the City Hall parking garage are continuing throughout the week as crews complete overhead concrete work. The project is expected to wrap up during the first full week of July, weather permitting.
The George Street bridge replacement project also moves forward Monday with demolition of the former roadway, installation of sewer and drainage utilities on the west side of the bridge and construction of a support excavation system. George Street remains closed and will stay under detour for the duration of the roughly four-month project.
On Gardner Street, crews are expected to finish sidewalk installation, loam placement, seeding and final cleanup by Wednesday. Alternating one-way traffic will be used in active work areas during construction.
Additional utility work is planned later in the week. Sewer lateral replacement on Dunbar Street near 65 Dunbar St. is scheduled for Tuesday, with alternating one-way traffic in place during the day. A similar project is planned for Wednesday near 8 South St., where alternating traffic will also be used while crews replace another sewer lateral.
Beginning Thursday, contractors will install a new water service and sewer lateral near 134 Arch St. Access to Langdon Place and Arch Street may be limited to alternating one-way traffic during the two-day project.
Meanwhile, reconstruction of the parking lot at the Public Works facility on Marlboro Street begins Monday. During the month-long project, visitor parking will be temporarily relocated to the lot adjacent to Bartholomew Court.
Public Works officials are asking motorists to use caution in construction zones, obey traffic control devices and allow extra travel time as work continues across the city.
