KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Yellow Bell Café is welcoming customers back for a soft opening tomorrow, according to a Facebook post. The restaurant is reopening its doors at 45 Main St. under new ownership after being closed since early March.
The downtown breakfast and lunch café is now owned by Chris McAtee, who previously worked in Yellow Bell’s kitchen and is leading the restaurant’s next chapter. McAtee said his goal is to preserve much of what made the café popular while introducing new offerings and expanding its hours.
Much of the café’s breakfast and brunch menu is returning, including favorites such as breakfast sandwiches, omelets, pancakes, waffles, burgers, sandwiches and fresh salads. A new dinner menu is also planned, giving the restaurant its first evening service once its liquor license is approved: in the meantime, mocktails are on the menu.
Several members of the previous staff are also returning, providing familiar faces for longtime customers.
Former owner Adam Berube has said he is excited to see the café continue under McAtee’s leadership.
“I am thrilled to see Yellow Bell reopen and excited for Chris and the Keene community,” Berube said in a statement. “Yellow Bell was created for people to come together to share moments and memories over simple and delicious food. I’m confident that Chris will continue this mission, and I’m excited to support him on his journey.”
McAtee brings experience in both the restaurant industry and business management. He has said he hopes to maintain the welcoming atmosphere that helped Yellow Bell build a loyal customer base during its first year while introducing new ideas to help the business grow.
The café closed in early March after about a year in operation, leaving a vacancy in Keene’s downtown dining scene. News that it would reopen under new ownership was announced last month.
McAtee is also exploring whether gift cards purchased before the café closed can be honored, although he has said that decision will depend on what is financially feasible for the new business.
Yellow Bell plans to operate Thursdays through Mondays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Evening hours from 5 to 9 p.m. will be added after the café receives approval for its liquor license.
