BRATTLEBORO, V.T. (MyKeeneNow) – The Town of Brattleboro is asking residents to provide feedback on a redesigned concept for the long-planned Putney Road Reconstruction Project.

The project, led by the Vermont Agency of Transportation, would reconstruct approximately 1.25 miles of U.S. Route 5, beginning on the north side of Veterans Bridge and extending north to the roundabout at Exit 3.

The original project plan included four new roundabouts, a divided roadway, sidewalks and bike lanes, as well as stormwater and landscaping improvements.

VTrans recently conducted a review of the project’s scope to determine whether an alternative design could meet the project’s goals while reducing the overall size and potential impacts of the work.

The agency presented a new conceptual design to the Brattleboro Selectboard on September 15. VTrans is now seeking the Selectboard’s support for the redesigned plan, which is expected to be discussed at an upcoming Selectboard meeting.

The Town of Brattleboro has posted the conceptual design and VTrans’ presentation online and is asking residents to submit questions and feedback on the latest proposal.
