KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – The City of Keene’s annual fall water main flushing program continues Sunday night, with crews scheduled to work from 10 p.m. Sunday, October 4, through 6 a.m. Friday, October 9.
The Keene Public Works Department says the work will be performed overnight to minimize disruptions from discolored water and traffic delays. The maintenance program is designed to clean mineral deposits from water mains and exercise city water valves and hydrants to keep them operational for firefighting, water main breaks and other emergencies.
The third week of flushing may affect the following areas:
- Black Brook Road
- Bowman Road
- Branch Road
- Chapman Road
- Forge Street
- Greenwood Avenue area
- Key Road
- Lower Main Street
- Marlboro Road
- Meadow Road
- Middletown Road in Roxbury
- Pearl Street area
- Rose Lane
- Roxbury Road
- Silent Way
- Winchester Street and all connected streets
- Wyman Road
Public Works says the schedule may vary depending on weather and mechanical issues. The overall flushing program is expected to continue for three to four weeks.
Residents may experience discolored water while the work is underway. If that happens, the city recommends closing all taps except one and running cold water for 10 minutes. If the water does not clear, residents should close the tap, wait 30 minutes and repeat the process.
Anyone who experiences staining on laundry should not dry the affected clothing. Public Works can be contacted at 603-352-6550 for a product designed to remove the stains.
