KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) With colorectal cancer becoming an increasingly serious health concern among younger adults, Cheshire Medical Center is offering Monadnock Region residents an opportunity to learn how screening, nutrition and other everyday choices can help protect their colon health.
The free workshop, Top Five Tips for Colon Health, is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Cheshire Medical Center, 580 Court St. in Keene. Dr. Suzannah Luft, a gastroenterologist and hepatologist, will lead the session.
The program will cover practical, evidence-based approaches to maintaining digestive health and lowering the risk of colorectal cancer. Topics include recommended medical screenings, foods that support gut health and steps people can take to prevent future problems.
The workshop comes as colorectal cancer has emerged as a growing concern, particularly among younger adults. According to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer has become the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among adults younger than 50, underscoring the importance of understanding risk factors and recognizing potential warning signs.
Luft will discuss when people should begin colorectal cancer screening, why early detection matters, symptoms that warrant medical attention, common misconceptions about the disease and ways to reduce risk.
The session is intended for people who are managing gastrointestinal problems as well as those who want to take preventive steps to protect their long-term health.
The workshop will take place in North Conference Rooms 1 and 2 at Cheshire Medical Center. Advance registration is required.
