WESTMORELAND, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Maplewood Nursing Home has been ranked among the top nursing facilities in New Hampshire and the Northeast in Newsweek’s America’s Best Nursing Homes 2027 list.
The Cheshire County-owned and operated facility placed third among 74 nursing homes in New Hampshire and ranked 20th among 622 facilities across the Northeast.
The annual rankings evaluated 14,693 nursing homes nationwide, with 1,325 receiving recognition. Fewer than 10% of the facilities reviewed made the list.
Newsweek’s assessment considers federal quality data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, along with other measures. Facilities are evaluated within their respective states and grouped by size to compare nursing homes with similar operations.
Maplewood Nursing Home Administrator Kathryn Kindopp credited the recognition to the people who support the facility, including its staff and elected officials.
“We are grateful to be recognized by Newsweek as being a top long term care home in our country and specifically in the top three of our state,” Kindopp said.
She added that residents and their families remain at the center of the facility’s work, describing the opportunity to serve residents and provide a workplace for employees as its most important achievement.
Located in Westmoreland, Maplewood provides long-term skilled nursing care and rehabilitation services to Cheshire County residents. Its county-operated status allows people to access those services close to their families and established community connections.
The facility’s care team includes registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and licensed nursing assistants, supported by employees in therapy, dietary services, housekeeping, maintenance, activities, social services and administration. Together, they provide clinical care and assistance with residents’ everyday needs.
Cheshire County Administrator Christopher Coates said the ranking reflects the commitment of employees who care for residents around the clock, including during holidays and challenging weather conditions.
He emphasized that maintaining high standards of care is a daily responsibility shared across the entire staff.
“Newsweek has now confirmed what our residents and families already know: Maplewood is a special place because of the people who make it one,” Coates said.
The recognition comes as nursing homes nationwide continue to contend with workforce challenges, highlighting the importance of the employees who sustain care for residents.
For families in Cheshire County considering long-term care for a loved one, Maplewood’s placement on the national list provides another measure to consider when evaluating local care options.
