KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – The Keene Fire Department has officially appointed Jason Martin as the new fire chief, marking a significant step forward for the city’s emergency services.
Martin, a veteran of the department with more than 25 years of experience, most recently as the interim chief, stepped into his new role Sunday, according to a news release from City Manager Elizabeth Dragon.
Martin, who holds an associate degree in fire science and fire investigations, joined the department in 1998 as a firefighter and emergency medical technician. Although he briefly left the department between 2001 and 2002, he returned in December 2003 as a paramedic and steadily climbed the ranks. His leadership capabilities were recognized early, leading to his promotion to lieutenant in 2006, followed by captain in 2014. In September 2023, Martin was promoted to deputy fire chief, and earlier this year, he assumed the role of acting chief.
Dragon voiced her support for Martin’s new role, highlighting his extensive experience and creative problem-solving abilities, especially in managing the department under tight budgetary constraints. “Jason Martin has proven time and again that he is deeply committed to the safety of our community and the integrity of our fire department,” she said in the release. “We are confident in his ability to lead the Keene Fire Department into the future.”
As fire chief, Martin will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the department’s operations, from emergency response and training to community outreach and long-term strategic planning. His leadership will be crucial as the department continues its mission to provide top-notch fire protection and emergency medical services to the residents of Keene.
