SWANZEY , N.H. (MyKeeneNow) — A search for a missing Swanzey man concluded successfully late Wednesday evening, after family members reported him missing earlier that day.
Raymond “Scott” Underwood, 66, who suffers from memory issues, was last seen by his family between 2 and 3 p.m. as he left his home and headed toward a nearby railroad bed.
Unable to locate him, his family, friends, and neighbors spent hours searching the area, but with no results. A social media post on a community page about his having gone missing was shared multiple times.
At around 7 p.m., they alerted local authorities, prompting a coordinated response from the Swanzey Police Department, the Swanzey Fire Department, the Cheshire County Sheriff’s Department, and the New England K-9 Search and Rescue Team.
Nearly three hours later, at 9:52 p.m., Deputy Matt Sands and his K-9 partner Crush found Underwood in a large washout on the rail trail near his home. Officer Sands and Swanzey Police Sgt. Nick Paquim had been scouring the area when they located him. Underwood was uninjured but unable to leave the washout on his own.
Rescuers brought Underwood back to his home, where he was evaluated by personnel from the Swanzey Fire Department.
He did not require medical treatment.
