KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) In preparation for the 2024 general election on November 5, U.S. Attorney Jane E. Young announced that an Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) has been appointed as New Hampshire’s District Election Officer. This officer will oversee election-related complaints, focusing on voting rights issues, election fraud, and threats against election officials, as part of the Department of Justice’s Election Day Program.
Alongside federal oversight, the Keene City Clerk’s office is seeking community members to serve in several roles across the city’s five wards.
Volunteer Opportunities in Keene
Keene City Clerk Patty Little highlighted several ways residents can help during election days, with roles including:
- Greeters: Volunteers assist voters with check-in directions during three-hour shifts.
- Paper Checklist Reconciliation: Help update voter checklists; shifts are 5½ hours.
- Election Closeout: Aid in post-election vote count verification at City Hall the morning after each election.
- Party Change-Back Assistance: Support party affiliation changes following the state primary, with 5½-hour shifts.
- Voter Registration Support: Assist Checklist Supervisors with new voter registration at polling stations.

Election Day Oversight and Reporting
U.S. Attorney Young also emphasized that federal protections are in place to prevent voter intimidation, fraud, and threats against election workers. New Hampshire’s Election Officer will be available for complaints during polling hours at (603) 406-1242. Additionally, the FBI field office will have agents available to address any election-related issues on Election Day, reachable at 857-386-2000. Concerns over federal voting rights violations can be submitted directly to the Civil Rights Division via phone at 800-253-3931 or online at civilrights.justice.gov.
Voters facing threats or intimidation should call 911 before reporting to federal authorities, as local police hold primary jurisdiction over polling place safety.
