WINCHESTER, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A single-vehicle crash on Ashuelot Main Street in Winchester has claimed the life of a 20-year-old Keene woman, who succumbed to her injuries a week after the incident.
Lydia Massiah died Saturday morning at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA, after being airlifted from the scene of the crash on Nov. 17, according to Winchester Police Chief David Rice. The other occupant of the car, a 16-year-old Winchester girl, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released from Cheshire Medical Center.
The crash occurred shortly after 10 p.m. when the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta rolled over on Route 119 near Lost Road. Police reported that Massiah was ejected from the vehicle, while the teenage passenger remained trapped inside. Emergency crews worked to extricate her before she was taken to the hospital.
The crash also caused temporary road closures and damage to a utility pole, requiring Eversource crews to restore service.
Investigators are still working to determine who was driving the car, as the vehicle was registered to Massiah. Winchester Police are asking for the public’s assistance in piecing together the events leading up to the crash. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the whereabouts or activities of the occupants before the crash is urged to contact Capt. Charles Rataj at 239-6335.
