NORTH WALPOLE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A significant water main break Wednesday disrupted traffic in North Walpole, forcing the closure of Route 12 near the intersection of Center and Killeen Streets, according to a social media post from the Walpole Police Department.
The break was reported around 2:30 p.m. Initial reports indicated that a box truck fell through the damaged pavement caused by the water main break, according to a North Walpole Fire and Rescue Facebook post.
Emergency crews worked throughout the evening and early morning hours to address the situation. During the closure, smaller vehicles were detoured via Main and Russell Streets, while large trucks and tractor-trailer units had to take a longer route through Route 12A and Route 123 via Langdon and Charlestown due to clearance restrictions on the Russell Street underpass.
The road remained closed into the early hours but was reopened by mid-morning Thursday, restoring normal traffic flow in the area.
