BRATTLEBORO, V.T. (MyKeeneNow) In response to a fire that broke out at the School for International Training (SIT) last week the Planet Fitness location in Brattleboro is opening its doors to those affected.

Effective immediately through April 30th, the gym will provide free access to locker rooms, showers, electrical outlets, WiFi, workout facilities, and massage chairs/loungers for both members and nonmembers impacted by the fire.

The blaze at 1 Kipling Road broke out last Wednesday morning, March 26th, shortly after 11 a.m. First responders arrived at the campus and found an active fire in Gamble Residence, a dormitory on the north side of the campus. As firefighters discovered more fires in separate buildings, the call was escalated to a second alarm. Eventually, active fires were confirmed in five of the 26 buildings on campus, leading to a three-alarm response.

126 people were displaced in the fire, including 17 minors. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, but authorities have stated they do not believe it is suspicious.

Planet Fitness, located at 768 Putney Rd, is offering assistance as part of its commitment to the local community. The facility operates Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
