KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) In an effort to promote sustainability and energy conservation, Eversource is partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation to provide more than 1,000 free trees to customers across its service area, including hundreds in New Hampshire.

Residents in Keene will have the opportunity to claim a complimentary tree on a first-come, first-served basis through an innovative program designed to maximize environmental and cost-saving benefits, according to a news release from Everousece.

The initiative, known as the Energy-Saving Trees program, offers participants access to an online tool that helps them determine the best location for planting based on their property’s layout. The goal is to optimize shade coverage, reduce energy consumption, and enhance environmental benefits such as improved air quality and stormwater reduction. Eligible customers can reserve a tree through the program’s online portal, which opened this week, with distribution events planned for early May.

Eversource officials say the program is part of a broader effort to encourage responsible tree planting while also helping customers lower energy costs. Ian Farley, Eversource’s Manager of Vegetation Management, emphasized the advantages of placing trees strategically.

By planting the right tree in the right place, customers can enjoy energy savings while also supporting pollinators, improving air quality, and strengthening local ecosystems, Farley said in the rlease.

The partnership’s goal in expanding this program to new communities is to create greener, more sustainable neighborhoods.

The collaboration underscores Eversource’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

The trees distributed through this program provide tangible benefits, from cooling homes in the summer to improving local air quality, the release said.

The Energy-Saving Trees program will continue until all trees are claimed. Residents interested in reserving a tree can visit the program’s online portal or contact the Arbor Day Foundation for assistance.
