WESTMORELAND, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A late-night fire severely damaged a commercial building on Route 12 Friday, prompting a second-alarm response from area fire departments, according to fire officials.

Crews were dispatched to the structure—known locally as the former Putter’s restaurant—shortly after 11:30 p.m., where they encountered heavy flames concentrated on one side of the building and extending to the second floor. The building is currently occupied by JSD General Construction.

Firefighters from several surrounding towns, including Chesterfield, Spofford, Walpole, and Westminster, responded to assist Westmoreland personnel. The fire was brought under control within two hours, and all crews had cleared the scene by around 1:30 a.m.

Officials confirmed that the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. While the structure is not believed to be a total loss, significant damage was sustained, and major interior renovations will be required before it can be used again.

The incident does not appear to be suspicious. Investigators from the New Hampshire Fire Marshal’s Office were on-site early Saturday to assist with the investigation. Preliminary findings suggest the fire may have originated from the spontaneous combustion of oily rags, though the cause remains officially undetermined.
