KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) From cheering squads to vintage cars, Keene’s planning committee is calling on all corners of New England to join the “Jumanji” 30th anniversary celebration downtown.
Participants from throughout New England are welcome, including individuals, families, nonprofit groups, organizations, businesses, schools, gymnasts, cheerleaders, performers, bicyclists, Little League teams, sports teams, girl scouts, boy scouts, 4-H clubs, police, fire, large trucks and drummers and floats, according to a news release.
The main parade will begin with line-up at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, in the Gilbo Avenue parking lot, behind Main Street America. The parade kicks off at noon and the route begins on Gilbo Ave, proceeds to Main Street America, turns left onto School Street at the light, then left onto Emerald Street, continuing left up Main Street to and around the Common, turns right onto West Street and ending in the Gilbo Ave parking lot.
Pre-registration is required and a registration fee of $10 must accompany registration. (Groups pay only one registration fee regardless of how many people are involved).
Vendors must also register online for a 10-by-10 or 10-by-20-foot booth on either Church Street or Railroad Square for two days. Non-profits may set up on the Central Square Common and there is no fee. Food may not be prepared on site. Food license information needs to be submitted for approval even if selling retail packaged foods.
Fans should mark their calendars also for Sunday, June 22 at 1 p.m. when VIP guests Dow Griffith, Bradley Pierce and Dan Sissons will hold a meet and greet at Shadow and Soul Emporium at 35 Main St. as the final event of the anniversary weekend. Griffith discovered Keene as the location manager, Pierce starred as young Peter, and Sissons designed the iconic game board itself.
Those who were extras in the film, working on set, loaned their car or had a family member who was part of the experience are also asked to share their stories in recognition of the 30th anniversary of this iconic moment in Keene’s history. That gathering is scheduled for this Sunday, June 8, from 1 to 3 p.m. also at Shadow and Soul Emporium.
