Lt. Keene residents can ride the City Express bus for free every Friday in October as part of New Hampshire’s Community Transportation Month. The “Free Ride Fridays” initiative aims to boost awareness of public transit as a viable alternative to personal vehicle use. The City Express, which operates Monday through Friday, serves 24 locations, including downtown, shopping centers, and medical facilities. Additionally, the Friendly Bus, a door-to-door service for older adults and individuals with disabilities, will also offer free Friday rides. Both services are operated by Home Healthcare, Hospice, and Community Services (HCS).

Early this morning, a serious accident involving a tractor-trailer and a car on Route 9 East in Keene left one woman with severe injuries. Emergency services responded within minutes to find the car engulfed in flames. Keene police had pulled the woman from the wreckage before the fire department arrived. Firefighters extinguished the blaze while containing hazards from the tractor-trailer. The injured woman was transported to Cheshire Medical Center, and although weather prevented air transport, she received life-saving care. Keene Police are investigating the cause of the crash, which closed the road for several hours.

Keene State College is hosting the 2024 Little East Conference (LEC) Men’s Golf Championship at the Keene Country Club, after a last-minute venue change from Western Connecticut. The two-day tournament begins on Wednesday, October 2, with six teams competing for the conference title. Keene State, last year’s runner-up, will rely on standout golfers Sean Bono and Sean McCaffrey as they aim for victory. Rounds start at 9:00 a.m. each day, and spectators are encouraged to attend and witness top collegiate golfers in action.
