BRATTLEBORO, VT (MyKeeneNow) A 23-year-old Brattleboro resident, Nazareth Mimitz, has been ordered to serve up to 21 months in jail after violating the conditions of his deferred sentence by possessing additional child sexual abuse materials.

In 2022, Mimitz pleaded guilty to charges related to the possession of child sexual abuse videos and photographs he had taken of a 13-year-old girl known to him. He was released under strict conditions, including prohibitions against possessing such materials and having contact with individuals under 16.

The recent violation led to the revocation of his deferred sentence. Mimitz will now serve up to 21 months in jail, during which he is required to complete in-jail programming for sex offenders.

Vermont’s Department of Corrections offers the Vermont Treatment Program for Sexual Abusers (VTPSA), which includes prison-based and community-based treatment options. Studies have shown that completion of such programs can significantly reduce recidivism rates among sex offenders.

This case underscores the importance of strict adherence to sentencing conditions and the role of rehabilitation programs in preventing re-offense.
