PUTNEY, VT (MyKeeneNow) A boil water advisory remains in place for parts of Putney following the repair of two separate water main breaks, as officials await lab test results to confirm water safety.

The breaks, which occurred on Alice Holway Drive and Old Depot Road, have been fixed, but town officials say residents in several areas must continue boiling water for drinking and cooking until at least Thursday. According to Town Manager Karen Astley, water samples are being collected Tuesday and Wednesday for testing at a certified lab. State regulations require two consecutive clean results before lifting the advisory.

Affected areas include the stretch of Route 5 from Christian Square to the Sunoco station in Dummerston, as well as Putney Landing and nearby side streets—West Road, Old Depot Road, Putney Landing Road, Alice Holway Drive, and Carol Brown Way.

Residents may notice discolored water due to residual sand or sediment in the system, Astley said. She recommended running taps to help clear the lines and using bottled water for drinking when possible. Boiling tap water for at least one minute remains necessary for any water used in food preparation.

While bathing and handwashing with the water is considered safe, Landmark College is offering its facilities for residents who prefer a cleaner option for showering.

Astley emphasized that the town is following all required safety protocols and will issue an update as soon as test results are available.
