FITZWILLIAM, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A diesel fuel spill from a tractor-trailer temporarily reduced traffic to one lane on Route 12 in Fitzwilliam Tuesday as emergency crews worked to contain the leak.
According to the Fitzwilliam Fire and EMS Department, approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from the saddle tank of a tractor-trailer near 21 Route 12 South shortly after noon.
Firefighters from Fitzwilliam were assisted at the scene by crews from the Troy, Rindge, and Keene fire departments. The Keene Hazardous Materials Unit was also called in to help manage the spill.
Officials said first responders focused on isolating the fuel and mitigating any potential environmental impacts. The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services and the Fitzwilliam Highway Department also responded to assist with containment and cleanup efforts.
During the response, traffic on Route 12 was reduced to a single lane near the incident.
No injuries were reported. Additional information about the cause of the spill or the extent of cleanup efforts was not immediately available.
The Fitzwilliam Fire and EMS Department said more details may be released as the response continues.
