KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Leadership at Monadnock Peer Support is shifting this week, as the organization’s board has tapped a longtime staff member to step into an executive role.

Melissa Callender began serving as acting executive director on Monday following what board members described as a thorough interview process. She previously held the position of director of mission impact and has been involved in expanding the group’s outreach, partnerships and peer-based programming.

Board leadership indicated the decision reflects both Callender’s familiarity with the organization and her experience in peer support work, a core component of the nonprofit’s services. Feedback from staff and program participants during the selection process was also cited as a factor in her appointment.

Callender will work alongside interim executive director Eli Rivera in the coming months to ensure continuity as the organization navigates the leadership change. The transition is expected to focus on maintaining and growing programs centered on recovery, connection and mental health support.

In a statement, Callender said she plans to build on the organization’s mission of providing peer-driven services, emphasizing the importance of creating supportive spaces for individuals facing mental health challenges.
