KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) City crews were called to a water main break on Water Street Friday, forcing the closure of a section of the roadway and disrupting water service for nearby customers.
According to Keene Public Works, Water Street is currently shut down between Grove Street and Carpenter Street as crews work to repair the break. Motorists are being asked to avoid the area while repairs are underway.
Residents and businesses nearby may experience low or no water pressure during the work, officials said.
The city did not immediately say what caused the break or how long repairs are expected to take but noted that updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
The latest incident comes less than a year after a major water main rupture in the same area caused widespread pressure loss across Keene and prompted a citywide boil water advisory. That July 2025 break, described by officials as one of the most significant in recent years, raised concerns about aging infrastructure along the Water Street corridor.
For now, officials said crews are focused on restoring service as quickly as possible and thanked the public for its patience.
Also, annual spring flushing will be delayed by one week and will start on Sunday, April 19.
