KEENE, NH – Eversource Crews have restored power to thousands of customers with thousands more to go following Monday’s winter storm.

In an update this afternoon Eversource said more than 900 crews are out today from Canada and neighboring states working around the clock to support public safety efforts, make repairs, and restore power to customers after the storm dropped a significant amount of heavy wet snow on top of already stressed trees and caused damage to the electric system in regions across the state.

In an interview with WKBK Tuesday morning, spokesman William Hinkle said communities supported by the Keene workstation were some of the hardest hit by the storm. He said additional outages are possible today as the snow sits on the limbs and power lines and continues to weigh them down.

Since Sunday night, Eversource line workers and remote system operators have restored power to more than 185,000 customers across the Granite State. As of 3:00 Tuesday afternoon, more than 32,000 customers were still without power statewide. All customers currently without power will be provided an estimated restoration time today, the update said, and the additional crews brought into New Hampshire to support the current restoration effort will remain in the state to respond to winter weather that will affect the state tomorrow as well.

WKBK Staff Meteorologist Pat Pagano is forecasting that snow will develop in the late afternoon on Wednesday and will change over to a wintry mix and taper off on Thursday, adding more stress onto the already weighed down trees and power lines.

As always, Eversource continues to remind customers to steer clear of downed wires and to report them immediately to 911.

Locally, crews with the Keene Public Works Department are doing the best they can to clear the snow but have been slowed down by an issue with one of their machines. With that, not all of the city sidewalks have been cleared yet. The department said crews have been working all day and will be back and midnight to continue working. Drivers should be alert for pedestrians who may be walking on the side of the road.
