KEENE, NH – Police in Claremont say a threat at the Claremont Middle School made Thursday was a hoax.

According to a news release, around 9:40 Thursday morning the Claremont Dispatcher Center received a call from a male, stating he was about to commit a school shooting at CMS. The dispatcher reported hearing gunfire in the background, and officers quickly responded to the school and determined the threat was a hoax.

The New Hampshire Intelligence Center was notified and updated law enforcement around the state. Since then, Claremont police say several other agencies have received similar calls.

The New Hampshire Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management issued a press release stating that the Department of Safety is aware of calls reporting active threats at schools across the state. At this time the Safety Department believes the reports are hoaxes, but all threats are being take seriously until their validity is determined.

The release also notes that this is the second time New Hampshire schools have received similar threats. Those threats were made in December and were found to be untrue.

As of 11:45 Thursday morning no local schools or police departments have confirmed receiving such threats.
