KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Several road, sidewalk, drainage and infrastructure projects are scheduled across Keene this week, with motorists, pedestrians and cyclists likely to encounter closures, detours and lane restrictions.

The work is planned for the week of Aug. 3, according to the Keene Public Works Department. Schedules may change because of weather or construction conditions.

Work in Central Square will continue Monday as Liberty Utilities installs a new gas main on the west side of the square near West Street. West Street will be closed while crews are actively working, with detours used as necessary. The street and nearby parking are expected to return to normal at the end of each workday.

On Marlboro Street, Bazin Brothers will continue the city’s reconstruction project between South Street and Dartmouth Street. Crews are scheduled to install curbing and pour sidewalk. Traffic will be handled through alternating one-way travel or shifted two-way traffic through the work area.

Construction also continues on Key Road, where Park Construction is installing a box culvert behind Keene Cinema Plaza and drainage improvements in the Staples and Keene Cinema plazas. Parking and travel lanes may be restricted or rerouted as the work progresses. The work is expected to continue for about three weeks.

The George Street Bridge replacement remains an active construction zone. New England Infrastructure Inc. will continue installing excavation support systems and utilities Monday. George Street will remain closed, with a detour in place for the duration of the project, which is expected to last about 15 weeks.

Crews from BC Construction will continue installing sidewalk along Harrison Street. The street will be closed to through traffic while the work is underway, with normal traffic conditions expected to return at the end of each workday. The sidewalk work is expected to be completed this week, weather permitting.

A two-day closure is planned for Wilson Street beginning Thursday, Aug. 6. Vortex will line storm drains on Wilson Street north of Emerald Street, requiring the road to be closed to through traffic during the work.

Work will also continue at the Eastern Avenue Transportation Heritage Trail trailhead. Gordon’s Property Services and Maintenance is reconstructing the trailhead and installing drainage. Parking at the trailhead will be unavailable throughout the week. The project is expected to continue for several more weeks and is scheduled for completion in October.

The City Hall parking garage will remain closed as Structural Preservation Systems continues concrete repairs ahead of installation of a traffic membrane. The city expects the garage to reopen around Aug. 17, weather permitting.

Several paving and maintenance projects are also on the schedule.

Beginning Tuesday, Aug. 4, the city’s Highway Division plans to pave the West Street sidewalks west of the NH Route 9/12 overpass. The project is expected to take two days, with alternating one-way traffic maintained through the work zone.

Paving is also scheduled for Aldrich Road near 19 Aldrich Road on Monday. The work is expected to take one day, with alternating one-way traffic used while crews are working.

Meanwhile, the city’s 2026 WOW program will move into Ward 5. Beginning Monday, Highway Division crews will conduct roadside mowing, tree trimming and brush removal along city-maintained streets. Traffic patterns may be adjusted around active work areas throughout the week.

The city is reminding drivers to slow down in construction zones, obey signs and traffic-control devices, and watch for workers, pedestrians and other travelers around active projects.
