KEENE, NH – Spring has officially sprung and things are warming up in the Monadnock Region, which means the Keene Public Works Department is set to begin their annual Spring Water Main flushing in the coming weeks.
According to a news release from Public Works, routine flushing is required to maintain water quality throughout the distribution system.
Work on the program is scheduled to begin in just a couple of weeks on Sunday April 23rd. Works is done overnight from 10 pm to 6 am in an effort to minimize any inconvenience in the form of discolored water and traffic delays. Drivers in effected areas during that time should use caution and be alert for workers.
The program is expected to take about three weeks to complete, and will be finished by May 12th.
A schedule of when specific streets are scheduled to be flushed will be released ahead of the start of the program on Friday April 21st.
While hydrants are open, residents in the effected neighborhoods may experience discolored water and a drop in water pressure. The department says that anyone who experiences no water pressure and a drop in service should contact Public Works as soon as possible. The overnight phone number for the department is 603-352-2222.
If you experience discolored water the department says not to panic, and to avoid using the water or doing laundry for two hours. After that, let the cold water run for 5-10 minutes, and if it still hasn’t cleared up two hours after that resident’s are advised to notify the department.
Anyone with further questions should contact Public Works at 603-352-6550.
