SPOFFORD, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – Two people have died and one person sustained life-threatening injuries in a crash in Spofford Friday afternoon.

According to a news release from the Chesterfield Police Department, first responders were called to the scene on Route 9 east of Cady Lane in Spofford at 4:09 pm Friday for a serious motor vehicle accident.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a blue Ford Mustang traveling westbound on Route 9 crossed the center line and collided head on with a Toyota Highlander traveling eastbound on Route 9.

Medical personnel arrived on scene and determined that the drivers of both vehicles died on scene, while a female passenger in the Mustang was taken to Cheshire Medical Center by ambulance with life-threatening injuries, then flown to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medial Center in Lebanon. The driver of the Toyota was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Police are not releasing the names of the drivers involved pending the notification of family.

The Chesterfield Police Department was assisted on scene by New Hampshire State Police, Chesterfield Fire and Rescue, Spofford Fire and Rescue, and the Keene Police Department. Route 9 from Base Hill Road in Keene to Cady Lane in Chesterfield was closed for more than three hours as crews investigated and cleared the scene.
