KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Downtown businesses, residents and anyone interested in Keene’s Downtown Infrastructure Project will have another opportunity this week to hear directly from project officials and ask questions as construction moves forward.
Keene Public Works will host its monthly Coffee & Hard Hats meeting on Wednesday, July 8, at 9 a.m. at the Transportation Center, 12 Gilbo Ave. This month’s session will focus on utility work planned for Central Square, with representatives from Liberty Utilities expected to discuss the upcoming replacement of gas mains in the area.
The informal meetings are held throughout the downtown construction project to provide updates on upcoming work, explain anticipated impacts and give community members an opportunity to raise questions or concerns with project staff.
City officials encourage downtown property owners, business operators and residents to attend to learn about construction schedules for the coming weeks and how the work may affect traffic, parking and access in the project area.
Those unable to attend can stay informed by signing up for the city’s email notification list and following updates posted on the Downtown Infrastructure Project webpage. Public Works also provides monthly progress reports during the Keene City Council’s Municipal Services, Facilities and Infrastructure Committee meetings, which are open to the public and streamed online.
Construction on the city’s multi-year Downtown Infrastructure Project began this week with Liberty Utilities launching gas main replacement work in Central Square, the first major phase of the $26 million effort to replace aging underground utilities and rebuild downtown streets and public spaces. The Coffee & Hard Hats meetings are expected to continue each month throughout construction as city officials work to keep the public informed about the project’s progress.
