SWANZEY, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) An 80-year-old Swanzey man was found dead in Swanzey Lake Friday after a friend called 911 when he could not be located at the lake’s public boat launch.
New Hampshire State Police said Philip Johnson had arranged to meet a friend at the boat launch around 11:30 a.m. to take a boat out of the water and load it onto a trailer.
When the friend arrived, Johnson’s boat was already near the shoreline, but Johnson was nowhere to be found. After searching the area, the friend contacted emergency responders to report him missing.
First responders subsequently found Johnson deceased in the water beneath his boat, according to State Police.
The circumstances surrounding Johnson’s death remain under investigation. State Police said there is currently no indication that the death was suspicious.
Marine Patrol officers and troopers from the Troop C barracks were assisted at the scene by Swanzey police and firefighters, New Hampshire Fish and Game personnel and representatives from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
