KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Drivers traveling through downtown Keene should expect temporary traffic changes this week as crews continue utility work around Central Square.

Liberty Utilities is installing a new gas line along the east side of Central Square, while Casella Construction is preparing for additional utility work. The projects will require several short-term detours between Wednesday, Aug. 19, and Friday, Aug. 21.

On Wednesday and Thursday, northbound traffic approaching Central Square on Washington Street will be redirected onto Court Street and then Mechanic Street while Liberty Utilities works at the Washington Street intersection.

During those same two days, Casella crews will be working on West Street. Westbound motorists will be directed toward Gilbo Avenue and then School Street.

A separate detour is planned for Friday, when Liberty Utilities works near the Roxbury Street intersection. Westbound traffic entering Central Square from Roxbury Street will be routed onto Franklin Street and Beaver Street.

Signs, cones and flaggers will be in place around the active work areas. City officials said the temporary traffic patterns are expected to be restored at the end of each workday.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution, follow posted detours and allow additional travel time while crews are working.
