KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – The City of Keene is continuing several construction and maintenance projects this week, with work taking place on city streets, bridges and the Transportation Heritage Trail.

In Central Square, the city’s contractor, Casella, will continue installing water utilities. Parking spaces and sections of Central Square involved in active construction may be shifted, closed or detoured as the work progresses. Traffic operations and parking are expected to return to normal conditions by the end of each business day.

Work is also continuing on the Marlboro Street Reconstruction Project. Bazin Brothers Trucking will install granite curb, loam and seed, and plantings along Marlboro Street between Baker Street and Eastern Avenue. Traffic will be reduced to alternating one-way operations or shifted two-way traffic through the active work zone. Normal traffic conditions are expected to return at the end of each workday.

The work is expected to take about two weeks, with paving scheduled to follow. The overall Marlboro Street project is anticipated to be completed by the end of October.

The George Street Bridge Replacement Project is also moving forward. New England Infrastructure, Inc. will clean up the construction site and restore the streambed. George Street will remain closed, with traffic detoured for the remainder of the project. The work is expected to take roughly eight weeks, with additional updates to be provided as construction continues.

Along Eastern Avenue and at the Transportation Heritage Trail trailhead, Gordon’s Property Services and Maintenance will continue installing culverts and fencing. Surface course trail paving is scheduled to resume Thursday, October 1, to complete the trail paving work. The trail will be closed beginning that day while the work is underway. The remaining project work is expected to take about three weeks, with completion anticipated in October.

On Baker Street, CM Minkler will begin milling and paving at 7 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, between Belmont Avenue and Beaver Brook. Traffic will be reduced to alternating one-way operations while the work is underway. The Baker Street work is expected to take one day, with normal traffic conditions restored at the end of the workday.

The city is reminding motorists, pedestrians and cyclists to use caution around active construction areas, follow posted traffic control devices and expect minor delays.

Keene Public Works is asking the public for patience and cooperation as the projects continue.
