CLAREMONT, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – A shooting incident Saturday led to a car chase and an eventual crash that left one person injured and another in police custody.

Claremont police were dispatched to a McDonald’s on Washington Street around 9 p.m. after receiving reports of shots fired, according to a news release the department posted on social media.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported a tense confrontation between individuals in two vehicles. The situation escalated when a white Volkswagen sped away, with one of its occupants allegedly firing a gun out of the window. The vehicle’s reckless escape route led it through the city before it crashed on Barton Whitney Road, colliding with several cars and rolling over.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, where the passenger of the Volkswagen was found with possible serious injuries and transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Dylan Lyles of Charlestown, New Hampshire, was apprehended by police.

Lyles now faces a series of charges, including reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, leaving the scene of an accident, and aggravated DWI. Following his arrest, Lyles was released on personal recognizance bail and is set to appear in Sullivan County Superior Court on Aug. 12.

The Claremont Police Department, which is continuing its investigation, thanked the Newport Police Department for their assistance in managing the incident. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to contact Detective Sergeant Trevor Dickerman at 542-7010 or leave an anonymous tip at 504-0239.
