KITTERY, ME (MyKeeneNow) – New details emerged in an incident involving a death in Troy and an officer-involved shooting in Portsmouth early Thursday morning during a press conference this afternoon with Maine and New Hampshire State Police.

Maine State Police Col. Bill Ross said just before 2:10 a.m., York, Maine police received a 9-1-1 call from a man who reported that he had been involved in a physical altercation with his wife at their home in Troy, N.H. and that she was dead. Police promptly responded to the residence in Troy, where they found the body of an adult female and the 8-year-old child living in the home was missing.

The suspect then drove to the Piscataqua River Bridge in Portsmouth. Law enforcement located his vehicle in the middle of the bridge’s southbound lane and initiated negotiations at about 2:30 a.m. and Interstate 95 was shut down. In the aftermath, authorities found the body of an 8-year-old child in the back seat of the suspect’s vehicle. The child had been fatally shot, but police clarified that this death was not a result of the officers’ use of deadly force.

No identities have been released. The woman’s exact cause of death has also not been released. Ross said the incident remains under investigation, and some information cannot yet be released.

The bridge. which stretches from Portsmouth to Kittery, was shut down for hours before and during the morning commute while the situation unfolded. It was reopened to traffic at about 9:40 a.m.

The New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit was at the family’s home on Monadnock Street in Troy, which was shut down this morning – it was recently reopened.
