KEENE, NH – Cheshire Medical Center has announced a permanent Chief Medical Officer (CMO).

Pediatrician Gina O’Brien, MD, MBA, CPE, FAAP has served as the interim CMO since May of 2023 after the previous CMO, Cherie Holmes, MD, MSc, stepped down to take on another role in the hospital. According to a news release from Dartmouth Health, O’Brien has stepped into the role permanently as of January 21, 2024.

“Dr. O’Brien has ably served as CMO in an interim role during which time she has built strong relationships with our provider staff across the organization and serves as a vital bridge between our medical staff and senior leadership team,” said President and CEO Joseph L. Perras, MD. “Her authentic leadership has been clear since my arrival back in August and I am thrilled that she accepted this position. It was a real win for Cheshire when we recruited Dr. O’Brien. Working with her during my first six months at Cheshire has been a privilege.”

Dr. O’Brien will continue to see patients in the Pediatrics department, and Dr. Holmes now serves as the Designated Institutional Officer of Graduate Medical Education, and also sees patients in Cheshire’s Center for Pain and Spine.

Joining Cheshire Medical Center in June of 2022, Dr. O’Brien began initially serving as an associate CMO and a pediatrician. Prior to her arrival at Cheshire, she served most recently as the Senior Medical Director for Population Health at UMass Memorial Health in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Her career in healthcare spans more than two decades and includes several other roles, and she holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington D.C. and a Master of Business Administration degree with a health care management focus from Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst in Amherst, Massachusetts.
