Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 16: The City of Keene’s contractor, Frank Lucius Construction, will begin water main valve replacement work, to improve system reliability, on the following streets:

  • Intersection of Park Avenue and Birch Street
  • Intersection of Hanover Street and Ridgewood Avenue
  • Arch Street, near Bradford Street
  • West Street, near Bradford Street
  • Intersection of Greenwood Avenue and Kenworth Avenue
  • Intersection of Kenworth Avenue and Riverton Street

This work will occur between 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and is expected to last for approximately two weeks, weather permitting.

Properties within the work area will have their water service interrupted for approximately 6 to 8 hours. Our contractor will provide affected properties with written notice (in the form of a door tag) at least 48-hours prior to the work.

Customers should also expect some minor disruption to traffic, including lane closure in the vicinity of the work. Although the work area will be properly marked and barricaded, drivers and pedestrians should use extra caution when they are near open excavations or construction equipment.

Beginning Monday, September 15: Ashuelot Street will be closed to through traffic starting each day at 8:30 a.m. to facilitate new utility connections. The roadway will be reopened to one-way alternating traffic by 2:45 PM, daily. The shut down and detour around the work area will continue through Friday, Sept. 19. Please use School Street to get around this area.

Please seek alternate routes and obey all instructions from traffic control personnel.

Beginning Monday, Sept. 15: As part of the City of Keene’s sewer rehabilitation program, GVC Construction will be replacing existing sewer standpipes with standard-size sewer manholes in the East Keene area. The project will begin on Monday, September 15, 2025, and is expected to last approximately three months. Work will occur on the following streets:

Appleton Street, Avalon Place, Beaver Street, Brook Street, Cottage Street, Damon Court, Dartmouth Street, Eastern Avenue, Edward Street, Fairfield Court, Gardner Street, Greenlawn Street, Hancock Street, Highland Avenue, Hillside Avenue, Lorraine Street, Main Street, Marlboro Street, Myrtle Street, Martin Street, Monadnock Court, Monadnock Street, Page Street, Prescott Street, Proctor Court, Roxbury Court, South Street, Spring Street, Tiffin Street, Town Street, Victoria Street, Walnut Street, Wilber Street, Willow Court, Willow Street, Woodland Avenue, Woodside Avenue.

During this time minor disruptions to vehicle and pedestrian traffic may occur, including temporary lane and sidewalk closures, to safely perform the work. We appreciate your patience as we complete these important improvements to the City’s utility network.

Please note that all work areas will be clearly marked and properly barricaded. Drivers and pedestrians are urged to exercise caution near construction equipment and to follow the instructions of traffic control personnel and signage.

Monday, July 21: Island Street will be closed to thru traffic for road reconstruction work by the City’s contractor, SUR Construction. This closure will be in effect until further notice, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Traffic will be restored to normal operations at the end of each day.

Detour: Traffic will be redirected around Island Street via Pearl Street.

Please avoid the area if you can, stay alert, follow all traffic signs and crew instructions, and be patient.

Beginning Monday, June 23: At 7 a.m., the City’s contractor, SUR Construction West, Inc, will be starting construction on the Island Street Reconstruction Project in the vicinity of the Island Street bridge.

A lane of traffic will be closed and alternating one way traffic in place during construction in order to safely perform this work.  Please seek alternate routes, be alert to the changing traffic patterns, be patient, and obey all traffic control personnel on site.

Ongoing construction activities on Island Street are anticipated until December 2025, weather permitting.

Year-round: The Public Works Director will declare parking bans as necessary to facilitate overnight street and parking lot maintenance operations.

During a ban, no vehicles can be parked overnight on City streets or in public on-street parking spaces. This will also apply to public parking lots from time to time. (This program has been implemented since overnight on-street parking became allowed by a recent ordinance change – it was formerly prohibited in certain locations.)

Email and text (SMS) messages will be sent to subscribers with details of each ban, and we will update the KeeneNH.gov/parkingban webpage and City social media sites.

Certain public parking lots will be available as an alternative overnight parking option when a ban is in effect. Check the web page or call 352-6550 for details.

This applies year-round, not just in the winter months.
