KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Keene police have identified the two drivers involved in Tuesday’s serious crash on Route 101 and said a medical episode may have contributed to the collision.

David Boyce, 72, of Hancock was driving a 2020 Honda Civic westbound on Route 101 when the crash occurred near Branch Road, according to an update released Wednesday by the Keene Police Department. Boyce was critically injured in the crash and was transported by DHART medical helicopter to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.

The other driver was identified as 51-year-old Mark Mollica of Brooklyn, New York. Mollica was operating a 2011 Toyota Prius eastbound on Route 101. Neither vehicle had any additional occupants.

Police previously reported that the westbound vehicle crossed the center line, struck an embankment on the eastbound side of the roadway and then collided with the Prius.

The department said Wednesday that a preliminary investigation indicates Boyce may have experienced a medical episode before the crash. Police emphasized that the circumstances remain under investigation by the Keene Police Collision Analysis Team.

The initial crash caused Route 101 to close for approximately 2½ hours Tuesday evening. A separate five-vehicle collision also occurred near Graves Road while traffic was stopped during the closure. No one involved in that secondary crash was transported for emergency medical treatment.
