KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A former New Hampshire State Police trooper from Keene has pleaded guilty to falsely reporting information to law enforcement after investigators determined he had secretly placed GPS tracking devices on vehicles.

James Lamoureux, 43, pleaded guilty Thursday in Keene District Court to one count of False Reports to Law Enforcement, according to New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella.

Under a negotiated resolution, Lamoureux will be sentenced to six months in the House of Corrections, all suspended for two years. He will immediately resign from the New Hampshire State Police and surrender his New Hampshire law enforcement certification.

As a result, Lamoureux will be placed on the national registry of decertified officers and will be prohibited from seeking future employment as a law enforcement officer.

According to the state’s investigation, Lamoureux placed GPS tracking devices on a vehicle regularly used by his then-girlfriend, as well as on his own vehicle. He also downloaded a tracking application to his phone.

After C.F. confronted Lamoureux about the tracking devices, investigators said he falsely told the Keene Police Department that he believed someone else had placed the devices on the vehicles.

Lamoureux allegedly knew that he had installed the devices himself. Investigators also determined that he later asked an acquaintance to provide false information to Keene police regarding the tracking devices.

The New Hampshire Department of Justice conducted the investigation with assistance from the Keene Police Department.

Senior Assistant Attorney General Alexander J. Kellermann of the Department of Justice’s Public Integrity & White-Collar Crime Unit prosecuted the case.
