KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Roadwork and infrastructure projects across Keene will bring temporary traffic changes, parking restrictions and construction activity during the week of Oct. 19, according to the city’s Public Works Department.
Work is scheduled at Central Square, Marlboro Street, the George Street Bridge, Eastern Avenue and the THT Trailhead, and Robin Hood Park. Drivers, pedestrians and cyclists should watch for construction crews, follow posted detours and allow extra time to reach their destinations.
In downtown Keene, Casella Construction will continue water and sewer utility work at Central Square beginning Monday, Oct. 19. Parking spaces and portions of the roadway may be temporarily closed or shifted to accommodate the work. Detours and traffic adjustments are possible, but normal traffic and parking conditions are expected to be restored at the end of each workday.
On Marlboro Street, Bazin Brothers Trucking is scheduled to begin final paving Tuesday, Oct. 20, as part of the street reconstruction project. On-street parking will be prohibited from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the week, and traffic will alternate between one-way directions as crews work. Normal traffic patterns are expected to resume at the end of each workday. Completion is weather permitting.
Construction will also continue at the George Street Bridge, where New England Infrastructure Inc. is scheduled to begin installing precast concrete sections Monday, Oct. 19. The work will be accompanied by end-of-season cleanup. George Street will remain closed, and detours will stay in place while construction proceeds. Crews expect to work for approximately six weeks before suspending the project for the winter.
At Eastern Avenue and the THT Trailhead, Gordon’s Property Services and Maintenance will undertake final hydroseeding and site cleanup starting Monday. The city anticipates the work will be finished by the end of the week.
Meanwhile, rehabilitation work at Robin Hood Park Pool is expected to begin Wednesday, Oct. 21, weather permitting. The contractor, Weston & Sampson CMR, plans to bring equipment to the site and begin demolishing the existing concrete pool deck.
The Public Works Department is asking the public to use caution around all active work zones, obey traffic-control signs and follow posted detours to protect construction crews and other travelers.
