KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Keene police have identified the pedestrian who was killed in a collision involving a garbage truck Tuesday morning in a parking lot off Ivy Drive.
According to police, 78-year-old Pamela Savard of Keene suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a commercial vehicle at approximately 11:09 a.m. in the parking lot at 333 Winchester St., home to Chipotle.
Investigators said the vehicle involved was a Kenworth refuse and recycling truck operated by Agri-Cycle Energy of South Portland, Maine. The truck was being driven by Robert Armstrong, 58, of North Hartland, VT.
Preliminary findings indicate Savard was walking behind the truck as it was backing into the parking lot when the collision occurred. Police said the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
The crash prompted the closure of a portion of Ivy Drive and part of the Chipotle parking lot for approximately 3½ hours while investigators processed the scene and collected evidence.
Police, firefighters and state troopers were visible throughout the area Tuesday afternoon as authorities worked to determine what led to the fatal collision. The Keene Police Department’s Collision Analysis Team is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Keene Fire Department and New Hampshire State Police Troop G.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could assist investigators is asked to contact Detective Andrew Lippincott of the Keene Police Department at 603-357-9820.
The identification of Savard and details released Tuesday afternoon provide the first official account of the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash, which police initially described as a serious motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian and a commercial vehicle.
