KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Drivers in Keene may encounter traffic delays and detours this week as the city’s Public Works Department oversees a variety of road, utility and maintenance projects throughout the community.
Several pavement marking projects are scheduled on city-maintained roads. Highway Division crews began installing turning lane and traffic signal markings Monday night and are expected to continue through the week. Work is taking place overnight, with temporary lane shifts and alternating traffic patterns possible in active work zones before roads reopen each morning.
Additional pavement marking work is planned for Thursday night when contractor Pro-Finish Lines returns to apply centerline and fog line markings on remaining city streets. The overnight project is expected to be completed before the Friday morning commute.
Utility work is also underway in several locations. On Court Street, crews from MME are replacing a water service near 397 Court St. The project is expected to last about a week and may require temporary traffic shifts or alternating traffic overnight.
On Willow Street, J & M Landscape is repairing a sewer service near No. 13. The work is expected to take two days and will periodically reduce traffic to a single alternating lane. Nearby, BC Construction continues installation of a new sidewalk. Through traffic will be prohibited during concrete pours, while alternating one-way traffic will be used during other phases of construction. The sidewalk project is expected to wrap up by the end of the week.
Major reconstruction work also continues on Marlboro Street between Main Street and Eastern Avenue. Contractor Bazin Brothers is performing roadway excavation, paving and granite curb work. Traffic through the construction zone may be limited to alternating one-way travel or shifted lanes.
Near the Transportation Heritage Trail trailhead on Eastern Avenue, Gordon’s Property Services and Maintenance continues work that may require alternating one-way traffic near the trail crossing. That project is expected to continue for roughly two weeks, weather permitting.
On Friday, crews from SUR West and subcontractors are scheduled to install pavement markings on Island Street. Alternating traffic will be in effect while work is completed.
Tree removal projects are also planned for Friday. Wilcox Tree Services will remove a tree near 284 Water St. beginning at 7 a.m. and another near 63 Beaver St. beginning at 9 a.m. Both jobs are expected to be completed the same day with alternating traffic patterns in place.
Meanwhile, repairs continue at the City Hall parking garage, where Structural Preservation Systems is conducting demolition and concrete restoration work. The project is expected to continue through the week and conclude in early July.
No work is scheduled this week on the George Street Bridge replacement project. Construction there is expected to resume June 22.
City officials are urging motorists to slow down in work zones, follow posted traffic controls and allow extra travel time when moving through construction areas.
