KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) The Keene Fire Department responded to a reported propane leak at Timken Super Precision on Optical Avenue Thursday afternoon, where firefighters worked to contain a venting propane tank and disperse potentially explosive vapors.
According to Deputy Fire Chief Gregory Seymour, crews were dispatched just before 1:40 p.m. after receiving a report of a propane tank venting in the company’s tank farm area. Firefighters responded directly from another emergency call and found the leak as described.
Crews used hose streams to disperse the propane vapors and manually attempted to stop the leak. Seymour said firefighters were successful in controlling most of the leak and reducing the vapor hazard.
The incident was brought under control without requiring an evacuation of employees, and no injuries were reported.
An engine company remained at the scene Thursday afternoon while awaiting the arrival of the propane company, which will make repairs and ensure the area is safe.
Seymour said he could not comment on how the incident may affect Timken’s operations but noted that the situation was under control and that fire units were beginning to clear the scene.
