TEMPLE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A 14-year-old Temple resident suffered serious injuries Wednesday evening after crashing a trail bike on private property owned by his family, according to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.
Emergency responders were dispatched shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday following reports of a trail bike accident in Temple. Personnel from Temple Fire and Rescue, New Ipswich Fire Department, Peterborough Fire and Rescue, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Temple-Greenville Police Department, and New Hampshire Fish and Game responded to the scene.
Investigators determined the teen was riding a recently acquired trail bike when he lost control while traveling along a straight but uneven section of trail. Authorities said the rider inadvertently engaged the throttle, causing the bike to accelerate and strike a tree beside the trail.
The impact threw the operator from the bike. Family members later located him on the ground near the vehicle after hearing him call for help and contacted 911.
The teen was transported by ambulance to Elliott Hospital in Manchester, where he was treated for injuries described as serious but not life-threatening.
Officials said the rider was wearing a helmet and appropriate protective equipment at the time of the crash. Preliminary findings indicate operator inexperience with the new trail bike was a contributing factor in the accident.
