CHESTERFIELD, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Three people were seriously injured and another was flown by helicopter to a hospital after a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Routes 9 and 63 in Chesterfield.

According to Chesterfield police, officers were called to the intersection around 12:35 p.m. Thursday for a crash involving two vehicles that had left the roadway. One of the vehicles was reportedly on its side, and emergency crews had to extricate occupants.

Police said their preliminary investigation determined that a 2026 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling north on Route 63 when its driver, identified as 38-year-old Kyle Roy of Athol, Massachusetts, failed to stop at the Route 9 stop sign.

The Equinox entered Route 9 and struck a 2023 Mazda CX-50 traveling through the intersection. The collision sent both vehicles rolling before they came to rest off the roadway.

Emergency responders removed four occupants from the wreckage. Police said the occupants sustained serious injuries.

Roy and the driver of the Mazda, identified as 43-year-old Sarah Winn of Chesterfield, were transported to Cheshire Medical Center by Rescue Inc., along with a juvenile passenger who was in the Mazda.

A fourth occupant of the Equinox was transported by DHART helicopter. A landing zone was established at the Spofford Fire Department on Pontiac Drive for the medical flight.

Roy was arrested on suspicion of aggravated driving while intoxicated, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and vehicular assault. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

As with all criminal charges, Roy is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

The crash prompted a temporary closure of the roadway while emergency crews worked at the scene and the damaged vehicles were removed. Police said the road was closed for approximately an hour.

The New Hampshire State Police, Cheshire County Sheriff’s Office and Hinsdale Police Department assisted Chesterfield police with the response. Guyette’s Towing & Repair removed the vehicles.
