According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Hampshire, Richard Conner, 64, of Worcester, Mass., and James Ferguson, 66, of Greenfield, Mass., were arrested Friday on federal robbery charges related to the March 15 incident at the T-Bird Mini Mart.

Investigators allege that shortly before 10:40 p.m. on March 15, two masked men entered the store, with one of the suspects displaying a firearm while merchandise was taken from the business. Authorities said the stolen items included cigarettes.

Court documents allege the pair fled the scene in a stolen U-Haul box truck and traveled south on Interstate 91 into Vermont. During the getaway, investigators recovered merchandise that reportedly fell from the vehicle along the route.

Federal authorities said the U-Haul was later found abandoned and on fire in Orange, Massachusetts.

Conner and Ferguson are each charged by criminal complaint with interference with commerce by robbery, commonly known as Hobbs Act robbery. The men were taken into custody in Massachusetts without incident and are expected to make initial appearances in federal court at a later date.

A criminal complaint contains allegations and is not evidence of guilt. Both defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

If convicted, each defendant faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison, up to three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.

The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Hampshire.
