RINDGE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A weekend wave of street sign thefts in Rindge has left town officials frustrated and taxpayers footing the bill. According to police, at least 11 signs were stolen from various locations around town sometime over the weekend—some of them recently installed to replace previously stolen ones.

The thefts carry a significant price tag, with each sign costing about $150 to purchase and install. The latest round of thefts adds up to at least $1,650 in damage. Town officials in a Facebook post say the loss goes beyond the financial cost, as missing signs can pose safety risks by making it harder for emergency responders to locate homes or accident scenes quickly.

Public works staff discovered the signs missing when they returned to work Monday morning. In several cases, signposts had been ripped from the ground and left nearby.

While sign thefts have happened occasionally in the past, town officials say the scale of this incident is unusual and concerning. Police have launched an investigation and are urging anyone with information about the thefts or the location of the missing signs to contact the Rindge Police Department at 899-5009 or Cheshire County Dispatch at 355-2000.
